“Our company alone may not be able to fix the world’s problems, but we are proud knowing that our
efforts and contributions are making a difference in the lives of so many people”

When I was 13 years old we went on a family trip to the city of Huaraz in the Peruvian Andes. The city is located at over 14,000 feet above sea level, surrounded by the Cordillera Blanca (white mountain range) on one side and the Cordillera Negra (black mountain range) on the other – The views were breathtaking and there were so many different places to visit. My mom and dad treasured every single moment we spent together as a family, and so did my siblings and I. This is, perhaps, the family trip I remember the most, because it was the last one we did together.
I was born and raised in Lima, the capital city of Peru, and was lucky enough to live a very comfortable life. My family had a large house, two cars, food on the table, we wore fashionable clothes… all of which seemed normal to me; but little did I know that just a few hours away in the Andes of Peru, there were people much less fortunate than us.
People in the Andes work predominantly in agriculture and many of them live in small remote villages where homes are still built with mud blocks. Some of these communities are so isolated, that access to electricity and water is scarce, and most homes do not have proper heating despite temperatures dropping below freezing. One of the things that struck me the most during our family trip to Huaraz was seeing young children walking barefoot for hours just to be able to go to school, because the only school in the community was kilometres away, accessible by foot only. This was an eye opener for me and made me realize how blessed I was. Ever since, I have always searched for ways to help the less fortunate.
I made Canada my home in the 80’s but have never forgotten my roots. Fast forward to a few years ago when superfoods started gaining popularity, my sister and I came up with the idea of merging the two cultures, making it our goal to bring the richness of Peruvian agriculture into North America. So in 2016, with a lot of planning and effort, Miski Organics was born with the mission of offering the best organic superfoods to Canadian consumers and beyond.
This mission however, goes deeper than that as we continuously search for ways to help others. By sourcing from local farmers in the Peruvian Andes, Miski Organics is contributing to the improvement of living conditions in rural communities, keeping farmers employed, and helping communities thrive by moving from economic instability to self-sufficiency. Our support for sustainable agricultural practices also helps ensure the environment surrounding our farmers and their land is safe, while allowing them to preserve their culture and traditions.
Our company alone may not be able to fix the world’s problems, but we are proud knowing that our efforts and contributions are making a difference in the lives of so many people.
This, and so much more is what Miski Organics means to me…
